Project Overview:

Dolese Woodworks is an independently run fine woodworking & furniture studio based in Bozeman, MT. Isaac was approached as a freelancer to develop an identity based around an illustration of a Northern Saw-whet Owl.

Initial Illustration:

Rendered in full detail, this illustration serves as the foundation for the identity. The client requested a mark that felt authentic and hand-drawn without compromising the core elements that make a logo functional. References included woodcut style illustrations and vintage bird guides.

The solution was to render the illustration in three levels of detail that each serve a specific purpose used on certain applications.

Primary Mark:

For the primary mark, this derivation of the owl was created for greater versatility and scalability. This version reduced the detail of original illustration to a more typical logo format.

This mark is suitable for the bulk of applications including signage, print and web.

Icon:

The tertiary mark boils down the illustration to it’s essential elements.

Mark suitable for applications under .75” (furniture brand, favicon, IG profiles, ect.)
